Thanks Nico, I was pretty pleased with him. I remember my first 70k ride on a borrowed bike around Lansdberg am Lech in Bavaria: I got stuck on the wrong side of the Lech river because I didn’t realise how far it was to the next bridge…

I hope so: bike rides are great ‘daddy time’. The valley is typical of the hilly regions of Germany, fortunately without aircraft lurking just over the treeline. I’m hoping to visit a few before the weather goes rotten this winter: watch this space.

Thanks. He’s eight years old. I suspect dutch children are riding similar distances at that age, but in an area where most children are shuttled about in daddy s SUV, he’s considered unusual.

Impressive! I still remember when I rode 60 km “accidentally” (we didn’t know that the route would be so long) in the Harz mountains a few years ago. At the end I was so exhausted that I had to walk my bike on a few stretches because I couldn’t climb anymore.

It’s beautiful out there. The picture of the valley is what comes to mind when I imagine riding in Germany.

It’s great that you’ve got an enthusiastic riding partner. I’m sure he’ll fondly remember his adventures with you for the rest of his life.
