One of the more memorable events in the UK was Youngest Son breaking his leg. He’s doing fine but we found we had to take him to the next town but three for the nearest doctor: the Bakfiets turned out to be marginally faster than the tram/bus, even with stops to see rabbits and cows, etc.
Somehow Youngest Son even manages to draw pictures in a moving Bakfiets.

Your blog makes me wonder why people are convinced they have to a have a car if they have children…

Indeed. When my father tore the tendons in his knee playing soccer, he was carted home in an old burley trailer that a friend had attached to his bike. (everyone biked or walked to the pick-up game) He wasn’t doing drawings however.

Hi all. Many thanks for the comments, and sorry it took so long to reply…
@Kim: Thanks for that encouragement… Trying to show families don’t need a car is one major reason I blog…
@Spencer: Ouch. Torn tendons aren’t fun. I can understand your dad wasn’t inclined to create great art…
@Bikejuju: Yup, he’s got more space than he would in a car. Mind you, I have to be careful not to thump him on the head when I turn corners…
@Nick: He’s getting better. Now he’s without the plaster and stumps about the Kindergarten like a pirate captain.
