As this post still manages to be one of the most popular on the blog, it’s only fair to say my Brooks Flyer is now, finally, comfortable. It took about 1000 km to achieve this and I’m still not sure which of us was actually broken in, but I can at least stop carrying a spare saddle around with me.
The foliage in the springs isn’t a permanent feature, I had an appointment in our local ‘sustainable town‘ and whilst cars had a large underground garage, the only parking space for the Xtracycle was in a bush. Probably the planners would argue that having to lock your bike to a tree is the ultimate sustainable parking solution…

Brings back the memory of my first racing saddle, which was a much cut-down Brooks (without the springs!) It was so comfortable. My current fundamental support is a Rolls, but while it looks pretty cool, that Brooks was good for 80 miles at a time.

Hello Ian. I don’t know how I’d cut a brooks down. I’m sure some cyclists would say that was sacrilege. This brooks has managed 100k which isn’t quite 80 miles but hopefully I’ll be able to try for that next year: this year was too busy for any real bike rides.
Any chance of you posting your bike on your blog?

Strange – I’ve now had three different Brooks saddles, and every single one of them has been as comfy as a very comfy thing right from day one.

Several people said that to me. I can’t explain why it wasn’t as pleasant for me: I have to assume I simply don’t have a Brooks-shaped backside.
