Ian: Thanks: the photos were taking on our ‘new’ camera from Japan and I haven’t worked out how to make it work with overcast weather. I’m learning that following a river is generally a good idea, which is basically what we did for centuries before we got arrogant and just used masses of energy instead.

There are a number of waterproof wood glues on the market, I am sure you can get something like Evo-Stik 717916 in Germany, then finish off with a good quality yacht varnish.
