Maybe I’m just too easily impressed after living in Ostfildern for a few years, but York actually seems to be avoiding silly glamour projects and instead spending the ‘cycling city’ money they’ve been awarded to to things like actually provide cycle infrastructure.


It isn’t Amsterdam, or Freiburg and a lot of the design thinking is still car-centered: I came across a few lanes like the one above, or which dissolved on contact with bus stops or traffic lights, but it’s not bad. I can get to most places without mounting an expedition to blaze a trail to my destination first.

I’ve also got access to a bike to enjoy all this on, but not a lot of time, so despite the title implying a series, don’t hold your breath.
